Luxury and tradition: Salzburg the shopping city
The most beautiful outdoor shopping centre in the world – that is what Salzburg’s old city is often called.
In the narrow lanes, the cute "Durchhäuser" (houses between two streets), the promenades and on the baroque squares you will find numerous shopping possibilities. The fashion range of the Mozart city runs from international designer brands such as Hermes, Escada, Max Mara, Gucci, Bally, Swarovski or Salvatore Ferragamo to top-class specialist shops and department stores.
The proper "Gwand", however, you will find in numerous clothing shops offering genuine classic clothes from the area of the Alps – from the dirndl to Lederhose, from the Walkjanker to the Wollstuzen. The intact mixture of old and new is particularly pleasant: old handicrafts such as bag-making or umbrella-making have been successful in the best locations and provide very special souvenirs from Salzburg.
Top-class: the selection of jewellers. Especially during the festival, breath-takingly beautiful jewels can be found in the shops of Salzburg’s goldsmiths. Shopping breaks are best taken in the traditional Salzburg coffee houses, where tarts, cakes and strudel additionally sweeten the new acquisitions.
