The Salzburg Festival attracts international artists and guests every year – but during the year fans of classical music also have a wide range to select from: the Mozart week has long attracted the attention of international music connoisseurs, the Easter Festival – established by Herbert von Karajan – is still the world’s most exclusive festival.
During Whitsun the "Whitsun and Baroque" has been established. The Camerata Salzburg and the Mozarteum Orchestra regularly play at the world’s most beautiful concert hall: the Mozarteum. In historic settings, at Hohensalzburg Fort as well as in Mirabell Palace, there are concerts all year round saluting the local genius: W.A. Mozart’s oeuvre is the focus here. The Schauspielhaus Salzburg and the Salzburger Landestheater offer top-class performances, while entertaining cabaret evenings can be enjoyed on smaller stages all year round.
A Salzburg speciality is the world-famous puppet play. The puppet play is fun for old and young – after all, classical music and opera are on the programme.
During Advent visitors should not miss the Salzburg Christmas carols: the historic nativity play has been famous for many years for its top quality.
