Königssee
The Königssee is in the south-eastern part of Bavaria, south of Berchtesgaden. The eastern face of the famous Watzmann towers more than 1,800 m over the Königssee. The lake is in part up to 190 meters deep and covers the entire length of the valley with its 8 kilometres. To protect this Alpine jewel the Bertechsgaden National Park was established in 1978 with the Königssee in its centre. Visit the historic Sankt Bartholomä pilgrimage church in front of the Watzmann eastern face as a very special highlight. A boat trip on Königssee. Shipping piers: Königssee, St. Bartholomä, Salet, Kessel. Unless the Königssee is frozen, it can be sailed on all year round.
You can reach Schönau am Königssee from the Friesacher hotel on the Alpine road, then follow the Berchtesgaden road to the border with Germany. Drive on the B305 after the border, then turn left into the Königseerstraße (B20), continue on this road until you reach the Seestrasse. Now you can already see Schönau and the beautiful Königssee.
